We don't see buckboards in my little section of Amish country, but they are a common sight in the Lancaster area, where this scene is set.  Each order of Amish has its own particular standards...for worship and for living; its own style of buggy; its own cut and color in clothing.   For instance, you won't see the color green on Amish dresses in my area, either.
