It is
around the time of the winter solstice; some snow has
fallen, it's been cold. But the weatherman is
promising more snow and dropping temperatures. A
hay rake lies idle in a dormant field, waiting, along with
the blanketed grasses, its revival several months
hence. The farmer is just able to get a few late
season chores done before returning to his home,
silhouetted against a sky ablaze with contrasting warm and
cool colors.
This
painting provided me a great opportunity to display the
incredible power of color available only from
pastels. Of course, to witness that power of color
for yourself you must see the original, which currently
hangs in Dutchland Gallery at Intercourse, PA. |
