On sunny winter days the colors on the snow and in the sky are strong, bright, pure, while the textures are sharply defined.  But if you stop to notice, there is also color, though muted, and texture, albeit softened, on cloudy, overcast days.

I think pastel is the perfect medium to illustrate this phenomenon...of course, I'm a little biased!
